By signing up, you confirm you are over 18. If you are not over 18, you may not sign up to this mailing list (not because I mail out anything inappropriate, but just because MailChimp’s policies make collecting email addresses from minors a headache).
I will mail announcements of new blog articles to this list once every two weeks.
I will mail announcements to this list of new books or booklets that I’ve published a few times a year (depending on how often I publish).
I will not share email addresses acquired through this sign-up form with third parties except by storing them on the account I hold with the bulk email provider – which at present is MailChimp. (Unless you specifically contact me through other channels – such as by sending me a private email – and grant me permission).
No email list is 100% secure and I cannot guarantee that this list will never get hacked, or otherwise stolen, although I will only ever log in to Mailchimp through a computer that has some anti-virus software installed.
I will never send an email to this list that asks recipients for personal information. If you should receive an email that seems like it’s sent to this list that requests information from you then it is a phishing scam – do not reply to it. If you do reply to such an email, thinking it is through this mailing list, you agree to hold me harmless of liability for all damages that may result.
If the government threatens to throw me in prison, fine or torture me unless I show them this email list (the chances of which are virtually zero!) I will comply. Other than that, I won’t divulge it to anyone, to the best of my ability.
You are responsible for ensuring that you read emails in a safe environment. If while reading my email announcements on your smart phone, or any other device, you should walk into a wall, trip on a banana skin or crash your car while trying to drive and read emails from me at the same time, or suffer any other kind of injury as a result distraction, or otherwise, from an email I’ve sent, you agree to hold me harmless of all liability for any and all damages caused.
All email addresses are stored on MailChimp which will process it according to their privacy policy and terms. MailChimp sends an unsubscribe option out with every email which, if clicked on, will unsubscribe you from the list. I will not store your email address outside of MailChimp (or some other bulk emailing service), so if you unsubscribe through MailChimp I will cease to store your data.
Alternatively you also can email me directly at john AT johnmccone.com, write “unsubscribe” in the subject line of your email and ask me to manually unsubscribe you at any time.
I will only ever store this mailing list with one bulk email service provider at any given time. Although I reserve the option to switch between reputable providers for reasons such as a change in the cost of service or other considerations.
At present this is a general Mailing List policy. In the future I may establish other mailing lists with other policies, but while I may rename this policy from “Mailing List Policy” to something like “Blog Article and Book Announcement Mailing List Policy” I will honor the terms of this policy for those who have signed up to this mailing list and no other ones.
If I cease to write blog articles then I will cease to send emails out to this list. I may also continue to write blog articles and cease to send emails out to this list. The terms set herein constitute a commitment, on my part, not to send emails out to this list except for the purpose notifying them of new books and blog post that I’ve published. The terms of this Mailing Policy do not constitute any positive commitment, on my part, to notify those on the list of the aforementioned announcement and I reserve the right to cease sending mail to this list at any point in the future at my discretion.
If a portion of this policy should prove unenforceable in the court of law, this will have no effect on the enforceability of the other portions.
